Treasures to Donate
- Donate something precious that belongs to you. Examples of things you can donate include:
- Your ponytail: If you have a ponytail that is 10 inches or longer, you can donate it to Locks of Love or Beautiful Lengths that make wigs for sick children who have lost their hair.
- Old, gently-used toys and books.
- Clothes and shoes that don't fit anymore. You can donate them to the Round Rock ISD Clothes Closet (just place them in the bin outside the cafeteria) or ask you parents to take them to SafePlace, Goodwill or The Salvation Army for you.
- Other items you may have to donate:
- Unused school and art supplies
- Your old bicycle to the Yellow Bike Project,
- Coats can be donated during the annual Coats for Kids drive in November,
- Sports equipment including roller skates, racquets and scooters
- DVDs you don't watch anymore
- Computer games or electronics you don't use anymore
- Toys your pets don't play with anymore
- Apply for a grant. A good list of grants for youth-inspired ideas is at What Kids Can Do. Here are some other opportunities:
- Do Something has two grants that it awards to youth under the age of 25: (1) $250 grants to help start a Do Something Club; (2) $500 "seed grant" grant to help start a community action project.
- Youth Services America announces various grant opportunities throughout the year for service projects.
- Pepsi's Refresh Everything Projectallows you to submit a project and have the site users vote on whether you receive the money.
- Fill up a "Philanthropiggy" from I Live Here, I Give Here and donate it to your favorite charity.
- Raise money through a lemonade stand on Lemonade Day (the first Sunday in May). There are lots of resources to help you run a successful lemonade stand: Alex's Lemonade Stand or Sunkist's Take a Stand.
